The Liberal Democrat-led Winchester City Council has declared a Nature Emergency, pledging to halt the loss of natural habitats, and manage and improve our open spaces for nature conservation.

Danny Chambers, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate, supported the move, saying: “The Lib Dem Council are taking a strong line on the
nature emergency and I fully support that.”

“I recently spoke at our Party Conference in Bournemouth on the nature emergency and am proud to see Lib Dems leading the way on nature both locally and nationally.”

The Council will work with local communities and businesses, in nature pressure-points like Whiteshute Ridge, to help them take action to support nature recovery, recruit volunteers for local projects and create support and corridors for wild flowers, butterflies, lizards, slow worms and even glow worms.

A recent national State of Nature report shows the UK is now one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth.

This is why Winchester City Council and Danny Chambers are acting now - to preserve our nature for future generations.
