Danny challenges Keir Starmer on future of Winchester A&E

MP for Winchester, Danny Chambers challenged the Prime Minister at PMQs over the future of Winchester Maternity and A&E services.

After speaking at last week’s maternity service debate and the harrowing stories of the trauma experienced by mothers when Consultant-led maternity services have been closed in towns and cities across the UK, Danny Chambers warned the government that the same proposal is being planned for Winchester, with the Consultant lead maternity and A&E services being taken away from the city.

Danny Chambers asked the Prime Minister -
Can the PM assure me that these services will remain in Winchester and can he commit to funding the backlog maintenance at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital so services can be provided in a modern, safe facility?

The New Hospitals Programme (NHP) is expected to affect the future of the healthcare facilities in Winchester. The fear amongst locals who rely on the A&E is that new facilities will move to Basingstoke and Winchester will be left without adequate services, forcing people to travel long distances to receive essential medical care.
