Stop Silverlake Expansion
Your local Liberal Democrat team are calling for Hampshire County Council to reject Silverlake’s application for a major expansion of their car recycling facility.
The expansion of this car processing facility would see the Shedfield plant become one of the largest of its kind in Europe, despite being in a rural location.
Your Liberal Democrat team is concerned about the negative impact of the development on our local environment in the Meon Valley, with the increase in traffic leading to increased noise and air pollution. The expansion would also remove important green space and arable farmland – damaging local habitats.
Cllr Anne Small says, “This is clearly the wrong area for this industrial expansion. This application will see a doubling in size of the current facility which fails to justify a countryside location. This is contrary to Winchester and Hampshire policy. The excessive height of the building is not suitable for a rural location. There is also a very real concern regarding the dangers of lithium battery storage and recycling at this site. I am disappointed that our Green Party County Councillor is not representing the strong views of local residents against this expansion. He needs to stand up for our local environment and to stop taking our rural communities for granted.”
